To blog or not to blog

I read a few blogs on a regular basis, and find I can get more out of it than if someone were to read mine! There is a great one on Iraq which is written by a doctor living in Baghdad. He delivers his points of vue with optimism and intelligence, without being too political. I like that. You can check it out at http://iraqthemodel.blogspot.com/

Not sure if I'll take this blogging too seriously, as I just needed to start an account to answer and comment on other blogs, mainly Pete Townshend's at theboywhoheardmusic.blogspot.com.

If any comments are added, be sure a reply will follow.

Bruce,

I can understand what you're saying about "to blog or not to blog". I had the same reasons as you when I first signed up for one. But after reading Pete's entries I became hooked and decided to go his route and use it to return to writing. I honestly did not think anyone would even read mine but was very surprised to see that people were reading it. So my direction has changed a bit but I shall continue with it.

Ann,
Quite funny that you have actually written me something here, and I thank you for it. I cannot take this seriously though, and I can understand your recent change of mind regarding what your blog will stand for.
I recognized you from the O&S list. We did have a short exchange a few years ago when we both noticed that we were from the same country and shared a strong passion for The Who. So when I saw you post on The bou who heard music, I figured I'd discreetly jump in the wagon and join -however timidly- the blog world.
So basically, I have no idea where I'll go with this blog thing, and want first to read PT's chapters. I think I'll do that in a few minutes.

Hello Stan

I checked your blog and saw that you are a chaplain. I'll be more than happy to answer your question, as succinctly as possible.
I was brought up Catholic, and disenchanted around the age of 7, and never looked back. Later, there were the various wars (Ireland, Middle East, ...)... I went to University in Political science, and History, learned and studied the Crusades, the Vatican, Islam and much more. All of it, in the name of God, lead to death and chaos. "They" want us to prey, but there are still catastrophes, injustices, famines, rape, murder, poverty, and so on. So religion or God a concept? Yes, invented by men to find a meaning for death (and life), so that we can explain the unexplainable and convince ourselves that there is life after death. I also see religion (God) as a crutch for those in need, something to hang on to when only despair seems like the logical alternative. But I'm a believer, don't get me wrong... and I just believe in me. Not in a narcissist way but in a good natural way. A concept like religion has not convinced me at all that it is good for humans. Too many have died for it. And look at the Catholics trying to survive through their paedophilia. Sickening. I respect those who want to believe, I just accept death and want to enjoy my time on earth, educate my children the best I can so that they can do the same later on.

So I hope I managed to answer your question somehow, it does make for good exchanges, as long as one doesn't want to change the other's mind, which hardly ever works. Any thoughts?
